You’re driven by continuous improvement and want your work to make a real difference. As a facility manager, you aim to support your team while navigating your day with minimal stress. My name is Cedric DeVaughn, and I started Facility Science to help you make that happen.
I created Facility Science for facility managers and professionals like you who face the daily challenges of managing complex facilities in high-stakes environments. I’ve been a facility manager myself and have a radical empathy for those working in semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceutical operations, and similar industries. If you’re making decisions in facilities requiring 24/7 reliability, you’ve found your resource.
I got my start in the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program. From there, I worked in the HVAC industry before finding my home in semiconductor manufacturing. I advanced from facility technician to leadership roles, eventually managing multiple departments, including Facilities, EHS, Quality, Shipping and Receiving, Janitorial, and Security.
Through these experiences, I recognized a critical gap. While plenty of resources show how to change a motor or replace a breaker, almost none discuss managing the facility technicians and engineers who maintain these systems. As a facility manager, you need more than generic consulting advice. You need practical, implementable frameworks designed specifically for complex facilities. That’s why I developed the Facility Science Framework and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Framework (currently in development).
What makes my approach different? I’m not offering generic consulting concepts from a playbook. I’ve been in your shoes and want to share my experiences. The wins and losses, the things that helped and those that didn’t. Every system, process, and recommendation I share comes from actual implementation experience I’ve encountered during my 25+ years of managing and working in complex facilities.
The Facility Science website is intentionally clean and focused. Just like your facility operations should be. I’m not here to tell you which CMMS to buy, but rather how to leverage what you’re currently using until you can decide on the correct one that fits your needs and how to transition to it. No memes, no “I’m better than you” attitude. Facility Science is about the leadership and management of complex facilities when the stakes are high, delivered without unnecessary distraction or noise.
Whether you’re struggling with facility operations or developing a safety culture, my frameworks address both the technical aspects of facility management and the leadership challenges you face daily:
- Maintaining 24/7 operations efficiently
- Implementing effective preventive maintenance programs
- Coordinating multiple technical teams
- Creating documentation and procedures that work
- Building high-performing teams
- Making data-driven decisions
If you’re struggling with work order management, searching for better ways to implement your CMMS system, or looking to develop your technical and leadership capabilities, I’m here to serve as your mentor and guide.
Let’s transform how you manage your facility and develop your team. Your challenges deserve frameworks and solutions built specifically for your environment.
