Our Story
In the past, making facility management better meant reinventing the wheel to solving everyday problems. Today, it means creating a community where facility professionals can share knowledge, learn from data, and focus on work that truly matters.
Most facility management resources are too general and closed off from what's practical. They don't address the challenges of complex facilities or the need for data-driven decision-making. We want to change this.
We believe there's a smarter way to manage facilities. Facility Science helps professionals organize their approach, stay focused on what's important, and align with their teams without reinventing the wheel.
We're here to help
Facility Science helps facility professionals by bringing a scientific rigor to facility management. Our community serves professionals nationwide, helping them focus on the work that makes a real difference.
Our story is your story. You want to do good work. You're driven by efficiency and continuous improvement. And you want your work to have a measurable impact. We want the same thing.
The start of things
My name is Cedric Shaw and when I transitioned from the to the semiconductor industry, I noticed that many facility management practices weren't keeping pace with technological advancements. As facilities grew more complex, managers were spending more time firefighting than innovating.
I realized that proven systems like Total Productive Maintenance, 5S, and Reliability Centered Maintenance had already solved many of these issues. But the information wasn't easy to digest, and some facilities didn't need to use every step of these systems.
So I started breaking down these approaches into smaller, flexible pieces that could be mixed and matched to fit different facility needs. I developed ways to tackle common challenges that were easier to implement. This gave my team a clearer picture of what to do and why. At times, they never knew they were implementing parts of a bigger system. It felt like they were creating their own processes designed specifically for them.
Inspired, I founded Facility Science in 2024. Our goal is to help more teams do great work without getting stuck in a cycle of reactive maintenance. We make complex systems simpler, so facility professionals can pick the tools that work best for their specific needs.
What's in a name?
Facility Science combines two key concepts. 'Facility' represents the physical spaces we manage, while 'Science' embodies our commitment to systematic approaches. Together, they describe what we set out to build: a community that brings focus, and continuous improvement to facility management.
Join us in redefining facility management. Let's make it more scientific, more efficient, and more impactful.
